Three years ago I married my best friend.
I know, that's what everyone says, right?
It's true though.
This boy was my closest friend and my biggest love.
He was there through my awkward, moody teen years.
He was there through heartbreaks and broken friendships.
He made me smile and laugh with every move he made.
He helped me pay my bills and pumped my gas when I was in college.
He stayed up throughout countless nights talking to me about nothing...and everything.
He pulled pranks on me.
He chased me through parking lots, along beaches, and through fields of wildflowers.
He played with my hair.
He told me the truth...always.
There were never any closer friends.

Then one day, we were us
We were perfectly, crazy us.
Together.
We had lived for so long...inseparable and melded at the heart, but then one day, it was different.
Our friendship was awakened and went soaring.
We were just kids.
And we still are, really, but we knew with every fiber of our being that we were each others other.
We knew since we met.

I thank God every single day for the friendship that we had before we started dating.
It's what brought us to where we are today and made us who we are together.

Never for one second has that passion and wild love been quieted.
Each day is more beautiful than the next when we're together.
I ache for him when he's away.
That crazy boy that I met by chance one summer.
The boy with the yellow eyes and the wild heart.

I am forever thankful for him.

Happy Three Years, Darling.

While He Was Away...

Okay, just a heads up, this post is probably going to be really lame and you're going to roll your eyes at what a big baby I am, but it's life so...I figured I would write about it...

Last week Josh went to Florida for a week for training for his new job.
I cried a lot during that week.
It's hard, hard, hard raising kids alone for so many days.
To all you single parents, you are rockstars.
We had our week completely booked solid so that it would go by quicker but that only made things harder because, well, just leaving the house alone with two kids is exhausting.
My mom came and stayed for a few days with us, we hung out with Josh's family a few times, and had lots of play dates and met up with lots of friends.
I think I only cooked one meal during the whole week because our parents got us groceries, took us out for dinners and a friend brought us dinner one night.
That part was pretty wonderful!

The longest Josh and I had ever been apart before was one night.
And it's been about 5 years since I've gone more than a day without seeing him.
Screw that whole absence makes the heart grow fonder crap.
The hardest part was sleeping at night.
During the nights when we were home alone I couldn't go to sleep until about 2am and then I was up by 7/8am with the girls.
One night I even woke up from a horrible nightmare and tried to call my brother-in-laws to come sleep on the couch because well, I was scared being home alone.
We Skyped Josh every night and talked on the phone during almost all of his breaks which was really nice and helped a lot but it's definitely not the same as having him right there with me.

Josh is our light and our joy and when he's not around, things are just not the same.
As energetic as I am, it's nothing compare to him.
He brings the party wherever we go.
Life was still fun but we all missed him and so there was a little cloud hanging above us.

Viv took it pretty hard.
After about two days she realized that Daddy wasn't just working a long weekend.
When we would Skype or call him she wouldn't speak to him.
She was confused and so sad.
Her daddy is her everything.
He's her comfort and her protection.
She relies on him being there always and when he wasn't around she was devastated.

Josh took being away from us pretty hard too.
He had meetings and classes for almost 10 hours each day and would be so tired afterwards that he just went to his hotel room and watched tv.
It was quiet and lonely and he missed us girls terribly.

Anyway, I'm so thankful that week is over and that he is back home with us!
I'm also exceedingly thankful to God for providing this new job for him!
He has a probationary period for a few months until he can go to full-time, so we're looking for a small part-time job right now to help supplement our income...and it's overnights...
But it's a solid job, has amazing benefits, and the best part...through the company we get basically FREE airfare to anywhere we would ever want to go!!
So that alone is so amazing!
We're already planning trips and vacations in our minds!
Right now I'm trying to find a nanny job that I can do from home so that Josh wouldn't have to get a second job and we would literally have him home all day long.
His hours now are going to be 10pm-3/4am so it still gives him time to come home and sleep without having the whole day gone.
It would be amazing!

We're also in the middle of some other amazing, amazing things happening in our life right now but I don't want to say anything and put a jinx on them so I'll just wait until all the details are worked out.
But I will say, life is 'bout to get crazyyy for the next month and a half.

Hope you all are having a happy weekend.
xo.

Our Summer Vacation

We spent the first week of August at a little cabin on the fingers lakes with Josh's family.
It was a wonderfully relaxing little getaway!
We spent the days just taking in the summer and enjoying the days without a clock.
We kayaked, swam, adventured through cute little towns, took naps, went for long walks, at tons of food and just enjoyed.

It was our first time away with both the girls and it was much easier than I had expected it to be.
Many hands around to hold babies!

Penny's Birth Story

Okay, where to begin...
Penny's birth was a whirlwind.
Everything happened so fast that I literally didn't even have time to comprehend what was happening.
Her birth was as completely opposite as Viv's birth as anything could ever be.
So...anyway, here we go!

Tuesday (6/11) afternoon I was getting ready to head to my OB's office for my weekly appointment.
Josh had just walked in the door from being out of town for something and he wasn't supposed to be home until 4 or 5 so that was a surprise to have him show up early!
As I was getting ready to head out the door for my appointment I got a call from the hospital saying that if I came in right that moment they had a room open and I could come in for my induction (that had been planned but cancelled due to the hospital being so busy the weekend before)!!
Without even thinking I said "we'll be right there!"
We quick called Josh's mom and she came over and got Viv right away, we threw our hospital bags together and flew out the door.
**I think it was pretty providential because my house was clean and I had just shaved my legs**
We arrived at the hospital at 2pm.
By the time we got all checked in, did all my vitals, and even got into a gown it was 3:30pm.
At that point I also got my first (of two) doses of penicillin to treat my GBS.
The nurse checked my cervix and I was 6cm dilated and 60% effaced (before starting the induction).
So basically, all we had to do was get my cervix to efface just a little bit more and we were golden.
By 4:15pm I was finally hooked up to the lowest dose of pitocin possible.
I sat and rocked in a rocking chair to help speed up the effacement of my cervix.
I was having a ton of contractions after getting my pitocin but they were never stronger than any Braxton Hicks I got through my pregnancy!
At some point my mom got there and hung out with us.
At 7pm they came in and gave me my second dose of penicillin and said they would be back in 30 minutes to check my cervix.
At 7:30pm the nurse came in, broke my water and before she was even done I started having the most intense contractions.
At 8:05pm they came in to give me my epidural (I know, I'm the biggest baby ever and had to have the epi after only a half hour of painful contractions) and it wasn't until about 8:45pm that it started to relieve the pain.
**if you can have a baby without an epidural, you're awesome...but it's not for me**
All I could feel was intense pressure baring down and my right butt cheek got a killer cramp.
The doctors came in and said I was probably ready to push!
At 9:10pm I started pushing...
I pushed once and I heard the doctor say: "stop! I need to get my gown on!"
All I could think was "holy crap I'm so not ready for this baby to be born so fast!"
I pushed two or three more times and my sweet little Penny Darling was born into the world!

I was up walking around, drinking a Starbucks green tea frappe, and showering within a few hours of her birth - I kept feeling like I was going to wake up from a dream and still be pregnant!
I still feel like I'm dreaming.
The whole experience was so fast and so surreal.
I keep thanking God for such a wonderful experience because it has made taking care of my wild toddler so much less stressful than if I had a traumatic birth like I had with Viv.
I think that God definitely makes birth easier the second time for that very reason...so mother's are able to jump right back into the routine of their other children.

We are so in love with our sweet little dark haired girl.
Viv is absolutely smitten with her and loves and takes care of her like such a big girl.
We're quickly adjusting to life with two babies and I'm loving every minute!

Springtime in the City.

Yesterday we woke up really early and got packed up for a little trip into the city.
We hit up the Rochester flea market and searched for treasures, stopped by a little bakery, and then explored the city for a little while.
We don't usually go into the city all that often just because I guess we're old and boring...but when we do I just love it!
I love going into little boutiques and cafes.
I can't wait for our big move this summer for the exploring!

After we explored for awhile we went to Highland Park where all the beautiful trees were in perfect bloom.
I was in heaven.
Flowers and life at every turn.
Springtime brings so much hope and renewal.
Yesterday was a much needed breath of fresh air after our long winter.
Watching my little girl run wild through the blossoms in her bare arms and legs was the best thing for my heart.
